The University Library is a beautiful round two-story building (Fig.1), having a total floor area of about 2,500 m2. The first floor accommodates an open shelving stack room, carrels, and group study rooms, while on the second floor are the entrance, the information counter, and an AV corner. The serial and reference collections are located on this floor (Fig.2), and librarians help you search books or journals.
At present, the library holds approximately 164,000 volumes, 4,000 periodicals and electronic materials including books, journals and CD-ROMs. Approximately 30% of the books and periodicals are in foreign languages. One can freely access the library and search books or journals using on-line web system (OPAC: open public access catalog) with your PC (http://www.pu-toyama.ac.jp/library/) in English and Japanese, although the library web request system is only for students and faculty members of Toyama Prefectural University.

Cooperation Center
Cooperation with the community and industry is one of the most important outreaches of the university. The Cooperation Center of Toyama Prefectural University was founded in 2004 to coordinate systematically the wide-range of activities so far developed and to cultivate new areas of interrelationship with the community. Since then, the center has been working as the open gateway to the university for citizens and industry. The center has been supported by the "Kenkyu-KyoryokuKai" (The Society for the Promotion of Cooperative Research) which was established in 2004 and now consists of 228 enterprises and 21 individuals.
The functions of the center are (1) the support of cooperative research, commissioned research, etc, (2) matching activities of the university's seeds with the community's needs, (3) services for the engineering and technological consultation, (4) support for the incubation and creation of intellectual property and others. Academic information has been exchanged between TPU and the community in many ways such as the open forum, the open seminars, "Step-up Seminar for Young Engineers" of specified topics for community engineers, and the "da Vinci Festival", a science-enlightening event mainly for youth and children. Thus, the Cooperation Center of TPU will continue to serve the community in intellectually creative activities and in cooperation with the community.
