Welcome to the Toyama Prefectural University (TPU) website.

TPU, which had been longed for by the local industries in Toyama for years, was established in 1990 by the Toyama Prefectural Government.

TPU serves as high-performance centre of creation, succession and dissemination of knowledge mainly related to engineering and the engineering sciences, despite being a small engineering institute of five departments consisting of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. As a higher education organization, the paramount mission of the University is fostering engineers and researchers highly capable of shouldering the future industrial engineering which faces a variety of challenges. Naturally, such high-quality education of the TPU can be sustained only through advanced research activities. TPU also makes contributions to the local industries and society by leading industry-university cooperation and providing life-long education.

During the two decades since its establishment, I believe TPU has accomplished the above mentioned missions successfully and will continue to do so in the future.
